Using Hyperstudio

(by Mr. Mitchell)

Creating a new stack

1. Launch HS by clicking on  HyperStudio.ppc™ 3.0

2. Click on the “New Stack  button at bottom of page.

3.  Click yes, then OK

You must tell HS to number your cards (unless you have Hyperstudio 4)

1. Under the Edit menu choose “Preferences”

2.  Put a check in the box beside the sentence that starts:

            Show card number....

3.  Click OK

Now you need to add some cards to your stack because at the moment you only have one card.

1.  Go to the Edit menu and choose “New Card”.

2.  Notice you are now looking at a card that has “Card 2” at the top.

3.  Add cards until you have 10 (or however many you need for your stack)

You should save your stack.

1.  Unsaved work can be easily lost.

2.  Go to file and “Save As” the first time.

3.  Tell computer two things:  Name and place

4.  Notice you stack now has the name you gave it.

5.  “Save” (or apple S and the keyboard) updates your work.

Moving between cards

1.  You may use the Move menu

2.   Or you can use the Apple command key (next to space bar) with the

greater / less than keys (they are with the period and comma keys)

Adding a background to a card

1.  Go to the Edit menu and choose “Erase Background”.

2.  Select the color you want.

3.  Click OK.

Adding Text to a card

1.  From the Objects menu choose “Add a text object”

2. When you add your first text object Hyperstudio will inform you that

you  can place the field or object wherever you choose.  Click OK.

3.  Move and resize the selected field as you choose.

4.  Click outside the text object field to get a window that allows you to

make several decisions about how you want your text to appear.

Changing, moving, or deleting a text object

1.  Choose the arrow (change tool) from the tools menu.

2.  Click on the text box once to select it.  It can now be moved using

the mouse, or deleted using the delete key on your keyboard.

3.  Double click on a text object to get the window that allows you to

make choices about how text appears.  (remember to have the

change tool selected)

4.  Sometimes you must choose the “T” tool from the tools menu to

            type.

Adding a graphic to a card

1.      Choose “Add a graphic object” from the Objects menu

2.      Navigate to the graphic: in HS, some clip art is in the “Media Library” folder.

3.      In the next window you will have to select or lasso the part of the graphic you want and click OK.

4.      Place the graphic on your card where you want it

5.      If you use “Add a graphic object” you can later move this graphic wherever you want it; however if you choose to “Add clip art” from the file menu, this places the graphic permanently on the card and it cannot be moved. This second option would be the best choice if you wanted the graphic to be part of the background or you wanted to be able to put text on top of it.
