Making the Show Desktop Button Show in My Quick Launch
Tony Mitchell January 2007
· Right click on the taskbar (on bottom row next to Start Menu)
· A popup menu will appear. If there is a checkmark next to the phrase Lock the taskbar, left click on that line so that the checkmark disappears
· Right click on the taskbar again and this time go up to Toolbars, and then over and down, and click on Quick Launch, so that a check appears next to the phrase
· You will notice some small icons appear next to the Start menu. These are shortcuts to various programs or commands
· Notice a vertical column of two dimpled dots. You can use your mouse to click and drag this column such that the width of the Quick Launch is narrowed or widened
· If you hover over the various icon with your mouse, a popup descriptor will tell you what the shortcut launches
· If you have several programs running, but you want to quickly get back to the desktop, rather then minimizing several programs, you simply click once on the Show Desktop icon to instantly minimize all programs and display the desktop
· You may delete any Quick Launch icon you don’t need using the right click, delete command (this only deletes the shortcut and does no harm to the actual program)
· To place a particular program icon in the Quick Launch area, go to the Start menu and hover over the Start menu launch icon and right click. Choose Send to, and Desktop. Then drag the shortcut icon that appears on the desktop to the Quick Launch area. You can then delete the shortcut from the desktop
