Working with Your Own Pictures in TeacherWeb
The directions below are for teachers who have purchased a
Teacherweb page and want to upload and display their own pictures on their TW
site. You cannot upload your own pictures until you have paid for the web space
Note: these directions are written for use with the SPLOST
Windows laptop. The software mentioned and many of the directions given are
Windows specific. Also, unless the picture is edited as described below, it will
most likely be too large to fit comfortably on your TW webpage
Directions:
- These directions start with the assumption that you have the picture you
want to put on your website on your computer already
- Locate the picture and open with Microsoft Office Picture Manager
- This software comes free on you Windows Xp computer with Service
patch 2
- Right click on the picture and choose Open with, and choose MOPM
- Once the picture is open in MOPM, Save As the picture to the desktop (or
some other folder), so that any changes you make will affect only this new
picture, and it will leave your original picture in tack (in case you make a
big mistake and don't want to possibly mess up an important picture)
- Give your new picture file a name that will have meaning to you and help
you remember what it is
- Click on the Edit Picture button at the top so that we have a task pane
open with editing choices
- Click on the Autocorrect button; this adjust brightness and color
contrast
- Click on the Resize link
- Bubble in Predefined width and height
- Choose the size you want your picture
- Email-Large is about 5 inches across
- Email-Small is about 3 inches across (this is the choice if you plan
to put the picture on the homepage)
- You may need to experiment here to find the right size, but it is
important to edit the picture before you upload it. You could choose a
percentage or actual choose pixel size, but i find the choice above
works best for me. You may find after you upload and display that you
did not get it the size you wanted; that's ok, go through the process
again, but choose a different size
- Click OK to initiate the changes you have chosen
- Exit MOPM and navigate to your picture
- Hover over the picture (or right click it and choose properties) to see
the Size of your picture
- Any size between 5 kb and 70 kb is ok, but the lower the number, the
faster it will load and the less time your viewers will have to wait
- If the size is in Mb, then it is too large and you should go through
the resizing process above to make it smaller
- If the size of your picture is ok, the next step is to upload your
picture or graphic to your TW site (then later we will display it on the page of your choice)
- So, access the Update Index on your TW site
- Click on the Add Photo/Docs link
- Click on the top Browse button
- Navigate to the picture you edited and now want to upload and click
open; the name of the picture file should now appear next to the Browse
button
- Scroll down, type in your password, and then click on Add
Photos/Documents
- Click on the Return to update index page link
- Next, we need to display the picture you just uploaded on the page of
your choice
- Back at the Update Index page, click on Change Graphics - Select from
Uploads
- This page allows you to choose the webpage on which to display your
picture; the top section allows you to display your picture on your
homepage, as the icon accompanying each page title. The bottom sections
allow you to display your picture at the top or bottom of a specific level 2
page. For example, if you choose to display your edited picture at the top
of your Teacher Page (not on the homepage, but on the actual Teacher page),
you would scroll down to the section that has the phrase Teacher Page in red
- Click on the dropdown menu next to the page name where you want to
display your picture
- Select your picture from the dropdown list
- Scroll down, type in your password, and click on Submit Graphic Changes
