SmartBoard Smorgasbord (District level training open for all MCSD teachers)

Classes are 9-3 PM, 5 hours, target group - teachers only

Location: Rigdon Road Lab 2

Date: October 15, 2009

The SmartBoard is perhaps the most innovative tool ever introduced to educators. It takes a familiar tool to teachers, the blackboard, and extends its functionality to the Nth degree. It allows two wonderful resources for educators, the computer and the internet, to be used in a whole group environment. Participants in this class will have hands-on experience using a SmartBoard. This class will not be demonstration only.  A multitude of practical applications for SmartBoard usage with be discussed, demonstrated, and modeled during this session. Options for immediate usage of a SmartBoard, even without learning any new software, will be demonstrated. Also the wonderful, free software that accompanies the SmartBoard, Notebook, will be explored. Teachers will learn how to download Notebook lessons that are already created by educators and aligned to the Georgia standards, for use in their classroom.

GoogleWorld (District level training open for all MCSD teachers)

Classes are 9-3 PM, 5 hours, target group - teachers only

Location: Rigdon Road Lab 2

Date: December 10, 2009

Participants will be exposed to the multitude of Google tools available to educators. Practical application for integration of these tools into the curriculum will be demonstrated and modeled, and participants will have opportunities to explore and create with these tools. Some of the tools that will be explored are: Google Earth, Google Documents, G-Mail, Calendar, Photos, and Online Bookmarks.

In the documents section there is a particularly useful tool that allows the creation of surveys (takes about 5 minutes), where responses are entered by your teachers or parents, and the information is tabulated and charted automatically for you.

Another useful tool in the document section is the ability to share documents such as spreadsheets or presentations, enabling easier collaboration and group work.
