Publishing Your Interactive Education
Video Game to the Web
By Tony Mitchell
The directions given below for this process make a few assumptions:
- That
you have hosting space on a server somewhere on the internet
- That
your host ISP (internet service provider) has enabled the internet
component that allows PowerPoint to work on their server. Many free
providers do not offer this service: Netfirms; Angelfire
- That
you know how to upload files and have the tools to do so
- That
you are using a Windows operating system. This will not work on a Mac;
believe me I have tried
The URL below will give specific detailed directions for
transforming your PowerPoint activity into a web based “Interactive Video
Game”.
To determine what version of PowerPoint you have, launch the
program, go to the Help menu and choose “About Microsoft PowerPoint”.
PowerPoint 2002 and 2003 (on
most Windows XP machines)
Some key things to remember when uploading your
activity to the internet:
- Triple
check the content and accuracy prior to uploading
- Be
sure the activity works properly prior to uploading; be sure you have
completed the steps needed to make the presentation function like a game
- Know
that when you upload, you will upload a presentation file AND a folder
containing the many pieces of the presentation; this folder will be
created in the “Save as a web page” operation
- Making
your activity look and work on the internet may take several attempts. You
may have to call your ISP to be sure they have enabled this functionality
Final
Notes:
- When
you finish uploading your activity, please send me the URL so that I can
link to it to show other teachers. My email is tmitchell@mcsdga.net
- If
your activity works great off-line, but you cannot make it work online
even after several attempts, email me the editable presentation (the .ppt
file), and if I have room on my server I will upload it for you and email
you back the URL so that you and your class can link to it online. Be sure
your name, or your classes name appears on the title slide
