A NOTE Regarding Internet Connectivity at Home Using Newer Lenovo Laptops
In order for the new teacher laptops
to connect to the internet at home, you must use a special tool that comes on the machine to find
and connect to your home network. Follow these steps while at home:
- Go to the Start menu and choose All Programs, ThinkVantage, then Access Connections
- In the window that opens, click on the Find button in the top left hand corner
- A window will open displaying any wireless networks within range
- Choose your wireless network and click the Connect button
- The first time you connect to
your wireless network, with a computer that has never been configured
for your wireless network, you must enter a special code that is
determined by your wireless router. This reqirement keeps unauthorized
folks from using your wireless connection. To find this code, you must
access your router from your home desktop computer. This is done
via your browser with a special URL number. These access numbers
usually start with 192.168.0. ....... etc, and are determined by your
router. You should check the manual or tech support number that came
with your router to get these numbers. Once logged into your router,
you will search for the Access Key. This access key number is the
special number that must be entered via the laptop the first time you
try to connect the laptop to the wireless router
- You may find that your Internet Service Provider (Knology, Mediacom, etc) can help with this problem
- This process only has
to be done once. Your laptop remembers this special key code, and it
acts as a key for your laptop to access your wireless network
