Directions
for Inserting Kidpix 4 Pictures into PowerPoint and
then Adding Recorded Sound
By Tony Mitchell
February 2008
Create
a picture in Kidpix 4
·
You
should Save As periodically, as you are working, but when the picture is
finished…..
Choose
Export from the File menu.
Save as type JPG to
your folder.

Launch
PowerPoint
On
the first slide, or on the slide where you want your first Kidpix
picture, choose from the Insert menu, Picture, and From
file
Navigate
to, and choose the picture you want to place on this slide
The
picture is now an object that can be moved and resized
Record
a sound in PowerPoint by doing the following:
·
Choose
from the Insert menu, Movies and Sounds, then Record a sound
·
Click
the red button and record your speaking, then click blue stop button
·
You
may want to listen to your recording to make sure it sounds the way you want by
clicking on the blue triangle
·
When
your sound is acceptable, click the Ok button.
·
A
small horn icon should appear on the slide
·
You
can double click on the horn to hear your recording
If you
do not hear any sounds, here are several troubleshooting suggestions:
·
Make
sure the volume is up and not muted
·
See
if you can hear other sound coming from the computer or another application
·
Make
sure you are using a good microphone
·
Make
sure the microphone plugged into the back of the computer in correct ports
Next
you will need to configure the sound object you just made (the little horn) so
that the sound will play automatically when the slide appears in your slideshow
(if that’s what you want, and it should be for a media festival slideshow),
To
do that following the directions below: (I have added screenshots to try to
make the process more clear)
Select
sound icon
![]()

Choose
from the Media dropdown menu – Timing
**If you do not see the Media or timing
choices, you may need to first select Custom Animation from the dropdown menu on
the right side panel.

Choose to make Start : After previous
Make
Delay at least 1 second

Click Ok
Back in PowerPoint,
choose View Slideshow from Slideshow menu (PowerPoint 2002), and see if the
recorded sound comes in when you wanted.
